August 10th, 2012 - Kansas City, Missouri: Vicki Reeping of Newman's Own and Fisher House Foundation announced that Help4VetsPTSD was unsuccessful for the second year in a row, not being selected for a grant they so desperately need.
Ms. Reeping stated: "We received 164 eligible programs this year, displaying a broad range of ideas to improve the quality of life for service members, Veterans, and their families. The judges had a difficult time narrowing it down, but have made their selections. The 6 programs recognized in 2012 will be posted on the Fisher House website on September 20, 2012....We wish you all success in your current efforts to support our Nation's heroes.
According to their website, Newman's Own Grant winners are chosen based on" potential impact on their respective communities, creativity, and innovation" and ability to "improve the quality of life for service members, Veterans, and their families." Six "civilian" judges, four female and two male, made the final decisions, decisions reflected in the charities chosen for the grants:

“Little Heroes”
A free pre-school program for children of deployed Soldiers. Parents of children ages 3 and 4 can take advantage of this great opportunity to help prepare their child for Kindergarten.
“Teddy’s Child Watch”
TCW offers up to 2 hours of free child care at the two military hospital facilities in Alaska. This care is made available to active duty and currently serving military families during the medical appointments of parents or sick siblings.
“National Guard Employment Program – Helping Our Heroes at Home”
Military Spouse Corporate Career Network, Lake St. Louis, Missouri
Provides employment referral, job training, and placement services free of charge to all military spouses, veterans, transitioning military, National Guardsmen, Reserves and military family members.
“Emergency Subsidies”
Military Women in Need, Los Angeles, California
Empowers female veterans and survivors to live their lives with independence and dignity through housing assistance, emergency subsidies, resource and referral services, and home
visits.
“Wounded Warrior Family Care Program”
Quality of Life Foundation, Woodbridge, Virginia
For families who provide full-time care to a wounded, ill, or injured veteran at home, provides home modifications, respite care, caregiver retreats, services for minor children, lawn and auto care, peer support, counseling, uncovered medical and dental expenses, and other various needs.
The Newman's Own grant selection committee focuses on quality of life services for family members and not a single program that can save a life of a serviceman, woman, veteran, or their family members was represented in 2011. Quality of life programs for families of service members and veterans are critically important to the DoD mission, ensuring service members, male and female, can focus on defending and, sometimes, dying for our country...that's right, men and women die for our freedom...every day.
